A de luxe setting built to a refined elegance standard and great attention to detail. A labyrinth where you’ll adore missing your way and be captivated at the sight of every angle. A place to be discovered and experienced intensely: you’ll be surprised and enchanted by its expert mix of styles and furnishings, which recall or point to the history of the island, while recreating the charming atmosphere of its origin. Designed by architect Gaetano Fazzini and committed by the Manzi brothers, this historical spa opened in 1863.
According to the Pompeian style, the rooms had ribbed vaults or barrel roofs and the foyers displayed imposing colonnades.
Close to the spa there was a hotel called “Dei Romani” meaning “Romans’ place”. There Italian hero Giuseppe Garibaldi was hosted in 1864 and healed by the “Gurgitello" spring waters from the wound he had suffered at the battle of Aspromonte.
In the 1960s, this estate was purchased and restored by the Italian publisher Angelo Rizzoli.
